As a new writer, one of the first things I had to do was figure out what tools were available to help me along this journey.
Of course, I knew about Microsoft Word and PDFs, so that’s where I started. But I quickly discovered that writing a book and actually formatting it for publication are two very different things! The editing process, moving chapters around, and getting everything to look just right wasn’t nearly as intuitive as I’d hoped.
So, I started looking for something better.
That’s when I came across a program called Atticus.
I did some research, played around with it, and quickly fell in love with how it worked. So I bought it, and I’m glad I did!
Here’s what won me over.
First, the price. At $147 for a one-time purchase, I thought it was very reasonable, especially compared to some of the other options out there. No monthly subscription to worry about!
Second, the formatting. Atticus comes with ready-made book templates that make formatting incredibly easy. You can choose a template, customize it to your liking, and even select the size of the book you want to publish. For someone learning all of this for the first time, that’s a huge help.
But here’s what I love most.
You can move entire chapters around with ease!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve rearranged chapters while writing Tipping Point. Sometimes a chapter just works better somewhere else in the story. What I found cumbersome in Word became incredibly simple in Atticus. And trust me, I’ve put that feature to good use!
And the cherry on top?
When you’re finished, you can export your manuscript into Word, PDF, or EPUB formats, making it easy to prepare your book for publishing in both paperback and digital editions.
For me, that $147 was money very well spent.
I’m still learning as I go, and I’m sure I’ll discover other helpful tools along the way. But if you’re writing a book, thinking about writing one, or just looking for a better way to format your manuscript, I highly recommend taking a look at Atticus.
Sometimes finding the right tool makes all the difference.
And Atticus, if you happen to see this post, I’m certainly open to a sponsorship! 😂
Just saying!
